The entire tourist offer of Samobor enrich and numerous traditional events. It is well known Samobor Carnival, with a long tradition, because it organizes for more than 170 years, surely one of the most attractive in this part of Croatia.
Interesting traditions are related to food and household chores that are prepared in the carnival time. On carnival Saturday people eat jelly, and when they finish it, bone scatter in gardens. Sauerkraut is cooked on Carnival Tuesday.
The water in which the food was cooked is used also – they wash "mouth" and "legs" of pigs, cows and other companion animals, in order to be healthy the whole year. In addition, the carnival people cook polenta, which eat both people and domestic animals (in order, is believed to be thick), and beef. Beef soup is must to eat, so that over the years people won't be thirsty, while a little beef is dried and cut, and left to the turkey to their health.
Among the most unusual carnival customs includes sweeping the room. "The Carnival morning, one of the men has to sweep the room naked: it will drive away the fleas".
If, however, before dawn on Carnival black hen is slaughtered and its blood sprinkled fence, house, chicken coop and garden, they will not be included ferrets, weasels, foxes and hawks, to attacking poultry. If this chicken is buried into the ground, the birds will not poke through it.
